The Society for Dance Documentation and History (SDDH), the largest dance studies society in Korea, was established on April 20, 2014, through the merger of the Korea Society for Dance Documentation and the Society for the History of Korean Dance. SDDH aims to discover and introduce new discourses and meaningful issues in dance studies in both domestic and international settings. In addition SDDH seeks to provide a platform that enhances the breadth and depth of dance research by encouraging the exchange of information among dance researchers and strengthening their academic competencies. It seeks to contribute particularly to the establishment and development of Asian Dance Studies by introducing trends in Asian dance research and communicating with international dance scholars and practitioners.
Publication of an academic journal and books
1. Asian Dance Journal (ADJ), indexed by the National Research Foundation of Korea, is an academic journal published four times a year (March 31, June 30, September 30, December 31).
Academic symposium and performance
1. SDDH will promote exchanges between Korean and international scholars and broaden the horizons of dance studies by holding domestic and international academic symposiums to share research and build a strong dance studies community.
2. In addition, SDDH will hold performances such as reconstruction, reproduction, and creation based on dance documents and researches.
Seminar to strengthen research capacity
1. In order to provide a place for an ongoing academic dialogue, SDDH holds a ‘Monthly Seminar’ during which domestic and international experts share presentations on a dynamic variety of topics in the humanities, culture, and arts.
Scholarships and academic support
For the next generation of academics, SDDH has established various mentoring programs such as scholarships. In addition, SDDH provides consultation on research methodology and preparing documents for publication.
